Rug pull and liquidity gone: what now?
Plain-language guide · updated 27 October 2026
Short answer
Liquidity is the money in the trading pool that everyone uses to buy and sell; in a rug pull the creator takes that money out, or the creators sell so many coins at once that the pool runs empty. After that there is no buyer left, so the price is close to zero, even though you still see the coins in your wallet. That money usually does not come back and anyone who offers to recover it is almost always a second scammer, but before your next purchase you can see whether such a trap is set.

Go to the checkA check is a snapshot: a coin can change within minutes. A new check shows the situation at that moment.
What liquidity is
When you buy or sell a memecoin, you do not trade with one other person but with a pool: a pot with SOL on one side and the coin on the other. The more money in that pool, the easier it is to sell without the price dropping hard.
How a rug pull works
In a classic rug pull the creator filled the pool themselves and takes the money out again. That is not possible if the pool liquidity has been burned or locked. With coins that start on Pump.fun it usually goes differently: the creators and a few early buyers together own a large part of the coins and sell them all at once. The result is the same: the pool runs empty and the price collapses.
What you can do now
Assume the money is probably gone. That is hard to read. But it protects you from what often follows: messages from people who offer to get it back.
Do not respond to ‘recovery’ help. Never share your seed phrase, pay no upfront fee and do not connect your wallet to their site. A transaction on the blockchain cannot be reversed, not even by an ‘expert’.
You can report it. Report it to the police and to your country’s official fraud-reporting service; where that is differs per country. A quick refund is not to be expected.
Look at how the coin stands now. Paste the address in Veydor. That is a photo of now, not a verdict on what Veydor would have said before the rug pull.
A rug pull is made to make buyers lose, and it happens very often with new memecoins. The warning signs are often visible beforehand in a check. Frequently asked questions
What does rug pull mean?
Literally: pulling the rug from under your feet. In crypto it means the creators of a coin take the money out all at once, leaving the buyers with coins that are worth almost nothing.
Someone offers to get my money back. Is that real?
Almost never. This is called a recovery scam: scammers look for people who have just lost something and ask for payment upfront, your seed phrase or a wallet connection. Real help never asks for your seed phrase.
What does ‘liquidity burned’ or ‘locked’ mean?
Then the creator can no longer take the money out of the trading pool. That rules out one kind of rug pull, not all: big owners can still sell their coins all at once.
Where can I report crypto fraud?
To the police and to your country’s official fraud-reporting service. The exact place differs per country, so look for the official reporting point where you live. More is above, under ‘What you can do now’.
