An email or letter from the tax office about your crypto: real?

Plain-language guide · updated 27 October 2026

Short answer

A tax office never asks you through a link in an email or text to connect your wallet, give your recovery phrase or send crypto. A message about your crypto with hurry, a link to log in or a number to call has the known signs of a scam. Click on nothing and check it yourself by typing the tax office’s address yourself and logging in there.

Paste the address and check it yourself

Veydor shows, in plain language, which known dangers a Solana coin has right now. Free, no account, and Veydor never asks you to connect your wallet.

Go to the check

A check is a snapshot: a coin can change within minutes. A new check shows the situation at that moment.

Why these messages are going around

Crypto platforms in the European Union pass information about crypto holdings on to tax authorities. Scammers ride along with messages that look official, with a logo and a case number. They are about an ‘audit’, a ‘return that is not correct yet’ or a ‘fine’.

The signs

A link to log in or to ‘confirm’ your details.

Your wallet or your words. A request to connect your wallet, give your recovery phrase or send crypto to a ‘control address’.

Hurry. Before a certain date, or a fine follows.

A number to call, or a phone call that follows the email.

How to check it yourself

Type the tax office’s address yourself and log in there; many messages from a tax office are also in your personal area on that site. Copy the text of the message and paste it into the chat with @Veydor_check_bot; the bot says which known signs are in it and opens nothing. A link from the message can be checked on Is this real?.

What Veydor does not do

Veydor gives no explanation about tax on crypto and does not help with a tax return; for that you go to the tax office itself. You can report the message. Report it to the police and to your country’s official fraud-reporting service; where that is differs per country.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tax office send emails about crypto?

A tax office sometimes sends general information, but never asks in an email or text to log in through a link, connect your wallet or send crypto. When in doubt, look in your personal area on the site, through the address you type yourself.

I already clicked the link and filled something in. What now?

Change your password through the real site, contact your bank if you entered bank details, and report it. If you gave your recovery phrase, someone else can reach that wallet; start using a new wallet with new words.

Can Veydor check my crypto tax return?

No. Veydor gives no tax explanation and does not check tax returns. Veydor only checks the message and the link for known signs of a scam.
